AutoCAD 2015 - What's New

Here is the full list of What's New for AutoCAD 2015.

User Interaction

New Tab

One of the first things you'll notice in AutoCAD 2015 is the New Tab. It displays as a file tab when you launch AutoCAD, when there are no drawings open, and when you create a new tab. The New Tab contains two sliding content frames - Learn and Create.
  • Create
    • The Create page is displayed by default and serves as a launch pad where you can access sample files, recent files, templates, product updates, and the online community. It's divided into 3 columns: Get Started, Recent Documents, and Connect.
      • Get Started column you can use the Start Drawing tool to quickly begin a new drawing from a default template or choose from the list of available drawing templates organized by groups. The last template you use becomes the new default. Other tools enable you to open existing drawings and sheet sets, get more templates online, and explore sample drawings.
      • Recent Documents column you can view and open your recent drawings. You can pin them to ensure they remain on the list. Icons at the bottom of the column enable you to change how you preview the recent drawings: thumbnail view, thumbnail and text view, or just text view.
      • Connect column displays notifications such as hardware acceleration, trial period, and where to download offline help. It also enables you to sign into Autodesk 360 and send feedback directly to Autodesk.
  • Learn
    • The Learn page provides tools to help you learn AutoCAD 2015. It's also divided in 3 columns: What's New, Getting Started Videos, and Tip/Online Resources.

Inventor 2015 - What's New

Now is the time to learn about the released details about latest enhancements that are added to Inventor 2015. I am going to focus on some of the more popular enhancements, you can read about the rest of the enhancements when I post the What's New document later.

General

Application Options dialog box is now resizable

Select any corner of the Application Options dialog box to resize.

Exciting workplane improvements make modeling easier

  • Take control of workplanes: You can now rename the workplane in the browser.
  • The name of the workplane now also displays in the graphics window.

Create midplane work planes from parallel or non parallel faces

Using Plane on the ribbon 3D Model tab, Work Features panel, you can create a midplane work plane between two parallel or non parallel faces in a part or assembly. In an assembly, it is required that the faces be on separate components. The resulting work plane is oriented to the coordinate system, and has the same outward normal of the first selected plane.

Product Design Suite 2015

Autodesk is making a few changes to its offering of Product Design Suite 2015. To start off, it is now down to just two editions, Premium and Ultimate. Anyone that was on the Standard Edition of Product Design Suite 2014, essentially this becomes Product Design Suite 2015 Premium and anyone that was on Premium or Ultimate Product Design Suite 2014, this become Product Design Suite 2015 Ultimate. Also some products were removed from all of the packages. The products that were removed are Showcase, Sketchbook Designer, Mudbox, and Alias Design. If you were on subscription and received these product before they will be offering a promotion where if you need these you can get them by just paying for a subscription cost for those products individually.

2013 Inventor of the Year

Asius TechnologiesAutodesk has named Asius Technologies, chosen by the manufacturing community, as the 2013 Inventor of the Year.

Members from the Autodesk Manufacturing community around the world selected Asius Technologies, led by audio pioneer Stephen Ambrose, the original inventor of the wireless in-ear monitor that allows performers on stage to hear themselves above other musicians and the crowd, for developing the Ambrose Diaphonic Ear Lens (ADEL).

The ADEL is a new type of earpiece that solves the problem of hearing loss resulting from repeated earbud use. Ambrose’s newest creation, designed with the use of Autodesk Product Design Suite software, was recognized as the Autodesk 2013 December IOM.

ADEL Auto Insertion Ear Bud EditiedAsius used Autodesk Inventor 3D design software as part of Product Design Suite to digitally prototype many of the ADEL components. Unlike normal in-ear headphones that trigger an “acoustic reflex” that dampens sound, the ADEL seals out unwanted noise and delivers a richer sounds at one quarter of the volume.

You can read more about Asius Technologies and the Inventor of the Year at In The Fold.

Also, here is a video interview with Asius Technologies about the Inventor of the Year award.
